Today was our cultural day in Moscow--up and out with our guide Svetlana (every guide we have ever had is named Svetlana). Went to Red Square and troops visited Lenin's Tomb. Then we went off to the Kremlin and got to see what a small city within a huge city looks like. Saw the biggest cannon in the world and the biggest bell in the world (weighs in over 200 tons). Then from the Kremlin we went to the Armoury--the largest collection of Faberge' eggs in the world and a great deal of jewelry, coaches, gowns from the Czarist era--they were simply breathtaking.
We then went to the Novidichy Cathedral (it was closed and we knew it) but we got to see the beautiful lake that surrounded it. From there we went to a very high profile burial area with Yeltsin, Kruschev and others there.
The troops are still suffering from flight fatigue and the heat. It continues to be exceptionally warm and humid here (a far cry from last year when it was cold and rainy virtually every day.
All are well (save for a few walking blisters) and they have already turned on me and my singing. How sad.
